Sir Terence Matthews is the founder and Chairman of Wesley Clover, an investment vehicle and holding company. Terry has either founded or funded over 80 companies since 1972 including Newbridge Networks, a company he founded in 1986 and which became a leader in the worldwide data networking industry. When France-based Alcatel acquired Newbridge in May 2000, the company employed more than 6,500 employees and recorded FY 1999 revenue of $1.8 billion. In 1972, before launching Newbridge, Terry co-founded Mitel, a world leader in the design and manufacture of enterprise communications solutions. Wesley Clover now has interests in a broad range of next-generation technology companies, real estate, hotels and resorts.
In addition to being the Chairman of Wesley Clover, Terry is also Chairman of a number of private and publicly traded companies including Mitel, March Networks, Bridgewater Systems, Solace Systems and Counterpath and sits as a director on the Boards of several others.
Terry holds an honours degree in electronics from the University of Wales and is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical Engineers and of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He has been awarded honorary doctorates by several universities, including the University of Wales and Carleton University in Ottawa. In 1994, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, and in the 2001 Queen's Birthday Honours, he was awarded a Knighthood.
Mike Pascoe is well known for his strong record of building shareholder value in the telecommunications industry and for his active role on the boards of leading up-and-coming technology companies, such as ANDA Networks. Most recently, Mr. Pascoe was CEO of Meriton Networks and led its private sale to Xtera Communications. Previously, Mr. Pascoe was CEO and President of PairGain Technologies, which ADC acquired in 2000 for $3 billion. Prior to PairGain, Mr. Pascoe was a key member of the executive management team at Newbridge Networks (acquired by Alcatel in 2000 for $7 billion) as the president of the U.S. division, as well as the EVP/GM of the North and South American business regions. Prior to his 14 years with Newbridge, Mr. Pascoe held various engineering and marketing positions with Nortel, Mitel and the telecom division of Rockwell International. Mr. Pascoe holds an electrical engineering degree from the University of Waterloo.
Dan Rusheleau is a technology leader with more than 35 years of experience in the voice and data communications industry. In 1986, Mr. Rusheleau co-founded Newbridge Networks with Sir Terrence Matthews. He served as Newbridge’s Vice President of Research and Development and General Manager of the Access Product Business Unit until 1993, and continued to serve on the company’s Board of Directors until 1998. Prior to Newbridge, Mr. Rusheleau held Engineering positions with GTE Automatic Electric, Bell Northern Research, Norpak and Mitel. Mr. Rusheleau has founded or participated in the launch of a number of other technology firms, including West End Systems, Power Trunk, March Networks and RevD. Mr. Rusheleau holds an electrical engineering degree from the University of Waterloo.
With 26 years in the hi-tech and telecommunications sector, Steve Spooner has a wealth of experience in corporate finance, strategic business planning and operational leadership. As Chief Financial Officer for Mitel Networks, an $800M, 2500 person communications solutions company, Mr. Spooner has global responsibility for Finance, Operations, Legal, Information Technology, M&A and Investor Relations. Mr. Spooner’s past experience includes roles as CEO, COO and CFO of both emerging and established industry players including tenures at Digital, Wang, SHL Systemhouse, CrossKeys Systems, Stream Intelligent Networks and Wysdom. Mr. Spooner has significant capital raising experience, most notably having led the raising of $760M of debt and equity financing in August 2007, to finance the acquisition of Inter-Tel, a $460M, 1900 person publicly traded company. In 2007, Mr. Spooner was appointed Chief Integration Officer with overall responsibility to integrate the acquisition of Inter-Tel into Mitel. In addition Mr. Spooner has previously led a cross-border NASDAQ/TSX IPO in 1997. Mr. Spooner has sat on several strategic advisory boards for emerging tech companies and is a former member of the Board of the Canadian Wireless Telecom Association and former Chairman of the CWTA’s Fixed Wireless Committee. Mr. Spooner also sits on the boards of several Mitel subsidiary companies. Mr. Spooner is a Chartered Accountant (Ontario ’82), a graduate of Carleton University (Commerce ‘80) and holds the ICD.D professional director designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Scott Marshall most recently held the post of Senior Vice President of Engineering, Product Management and Business Development with Redback Networks, where he was responsible for technical and product leadership. Mr. Marshall has 30 years of networking and telecommunications experience in product and architecture strategy, engineering management, product development and executive leadership. He was formerly a group vice president of Cisco Systems with responsibility for multiple business units, including Dial Remote Access Servers and Concentrators, DSL, Cable, Wireless, Multi-service Switching, Voice over IP and Integrated Access Devices. Mr. Marshall also served as President and Chief Executive Officer of optical start-up Ceyba Corporation and Executive Vice President of Research and Development of Newbridge Networks. He also held senior product management and engineering roles at Newbridge, Mitel and Nortel.
As President of General Dynamics Canada, John Watts is responsible for providing the strategic vision of Canada’s preeminent defence electronics company. Since his appointment in 2002, Mr. Watts has led the company through a period of significant business expansion into the systems integration market and unprecedented organizational growth to more than 2200 employees. General Dynamics Canada has consistently been identified as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers since 2003. Prior to his appointment as President, Mr. Watts held a series of progressively senior financial management positions in General Dynamics Canada and its predecessor, Computing Devices Canada. Mr. Watts served as Senior Vice President with responsibility for the general management of the company’s Ottawa operations. This included operational management of three of the company’s major business units including associated research and development, marketing and program management. In this role, Mr. Watts also had corporate-wide responsibility for manufacturing operations. Mr. Watts served as Chief Financial Officer from 1982 until 1994. Mr. Watts holds a CMA and ACIS designation. He is currently Chairman of the Board of the Canadian Association Defence & Security Industries (CADSI); a board member of the Conference of Defence Associations (CDA) Institute; member of the Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) Advisory Board; and member of the Canadian NATO Industrial Advisory Group (CNIAG).
Jerry Edgerton is a seasoned Washington, DC, veteran, possessing an intimate knowledge of the legislative and regulatory processes, as well as the ever-evolving business landscape. He is skilled in the “ways of Washington,” ready to assist, advise and manage the process of securing viable government business. Mr. Edgerton is widely known and respected in the federal marketplace for his 30+ years of bringing advanced communications technology to government. For nearly 20 years, he skillfully led the MCI/Verizon Business federal government business unit, building it from the ground up into a $3 billion enterprise that is widely regarded today as the premier federal government telecommunications organization. Under Mr. Edgerton’s leadership, the federal business unit enjoyed significant year over year revenue growth, retaining not only the vast majority of its customers, but its employees as well. The business unit continuously led the entire company in revenue growth and over-plan performance in a highly competitive federal marketplace. MCI’s FTS2001 contract ushered in a new era of federal telecommunications beginning in 1998, delivering to the federal government – and to taxpayers – advanced technology at exceptional value. Networx has been awarded and is in the early stages of implementation. Verizon Business is a named provider of services on Networx largely due to Mr. Edgerton’s leadership and foresight. Significant opportunity exists for technology insertion and innovation with the new service providers. Mr. Edgerton’s unrelenting focus on customer service has not gone unnoticed. Federal customers regularly give the company among the highest possible scores for service and responsiveness. Through his efforts, managed networks for federal customers such as the U.S. Postal Service and the Department of Defense are unsurpassed in their reliability and innovative design. These solutions have set the standard in the federal marketplace for network performance – a standard that competitors continually attempt to emulate. Mr. Edgerton has also led the initiatives to work with leading system integrators such as IBM, Hewlett-Packard, CSC, Perot Systems and EDS to bring advanced networking capabilities to large corporate entities. Prior to his long career in Telecommunications, Mr. Edgerton worked as an engineer and management consultant. At the U.S. Postal Service, he managed application design and data center operations and directed the development and deployment of large network systems. After the networking and IT experience for the USPS, he returned to the private sector direct the federal operations for Tymnet/McDonnell Douglas Network Systems Company. Under Mr. Edgerton's leadership, Tymnet became the major provider of data services for most Civilian Agencies. In 2008, Mr. Edgerton joined Command Information to assure the transformation of the company to a competitive enterprise in the transition to next generation internet technologies. He remains engaged as a Senior Advisor to CI in the Federal and Cyber Security activities of the company. Recently, Mr. Edgerton was asked to bring his experience to Core 180 to advance the company's position in the Government market space. He is currently engaged in the activities to define the strategic direction and to implement the future organization to accomplish a high level of growth from the demands for new Telecom services. Mr. Edgerton holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University and a Masters of Business Administration, Professional Management from Pace University in New York.
John MacDonald retired from MTS Allstream in December of 2008 where he held the position of President, Enterprise Division. He joined Allstream, at the time known as AT&T Canada, in November, 2002. Previously he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Leitch Technology Corp., a leading provider of high technology products and solutions to the global broadcasting industry. Prior to that, Mr. MacDonald was with Bell Canada from 1994 to 1999, serving first as Executive Vice President, Business Development and Chief Technology Officer before becoming President and COO in 1998. Mr. MacDonald began his career in 1977 at NBTel, the major supplier of telecommunications services in New Brunswick, rising to the post of President and Chief Executive Officer in 1994. Mr. MacDonald has served on the Boards of a number of companies, including Rogers Cable, Hummingbird, Stentor, and Leitch Technology Corp. He was a member of the Federal Government’s Advisory Council on Science and Technology. Previously, Mr. MacDonald chaired the National Selection Committee for the Federal Government’s Smart Communities Program and served on the Federal Government’s Information Highway Advisory Council. Mr. MacDonald holds a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from Dalhousie University and a Bachelor of Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia.
